On the blog now:
In the first flush of her California victory, it seemed Clinton had a clear path to the nomination. But the picture looks different on closer examination a day later. While she was winning the dwellings of America's elite, Obama was sweeping everyplace else - Utah, Idaho, Minnesota, Illinois, North Dakota, Kansas and Colorado, many of them states with virtually no black population. And his success in Missouri, Alabama and Georgia show that he continues to dominate Southern states with their large minority populations. Why is Clinton doing so poorly in the heartland? There, away from the liberal media and establishment bias and from the coastal immigrant and Latino concentrations, she seems at a loss. Aside from her core white-women constituency, these voters are really supporting the memory of Bill's presidency more than the prospect of a Hillary administration.
Renters near UA in tight spot
About a dozen boarders in two rental homes are caught between the proverbial rock and a hard place as the University of Akron buys homes to clear the way for a new stadium and student housing. Many say they do not have the money for a security deposit and first month's rent for new lodging. So they must stay where they are until UA gives them a promised moving allowance of $1,500 each. Yet UA won't turn over the money until the sales close. So the boarders — adults all — may end up on the streets just days before Christmas. ''It gets more confusing by the minute,'' said Jim Watkins, 45, who does siding and roofing work. ''We don't know anything and don't have any answers.'' UA is purchasing many properties on a 12-acre footprint southeast of campus to make way for a $32.5 million residence hall and a stadium which has a price tag that has risen from $55 million to $61.5 million because additional options have been added.

Shocking Revelation in Missing Teen Emily Sander Case
An 18-year-old Kansas student who went missing over the weekend is now believed to have lead a secret double life as an online porn star. A woman that looks curiously similar to missing 18-year-old Emily Sander was found on a Zoey Zane website (zoey-zane.com). Nikki Watson, a close friend of Emily Sander, told reporters, "She enjoyed it. She is a young teenage girl and she wanted to be in the movies and enjoyed movies. She needed the extra money. Nobody in El Dorado knew besides her close friends." The two went to school together at Butler Community College. Police involved in the investigation have acknowledged that they are aware of the website, but have so far refused to confirm whether or not Emily Sanders is in fact "Zoey Zane." They would also not reveal whether the Zoey Zane website was at all connected to her disappearance.
Council to slash 425 jobs as tax freeze bites
The council has also claimed that efficiency savings over the last two years have resulted in the need for fewer staff in certain areas. But two of Scotland's leading unions have raised the spectre of Glasgow leading the way in redundancies to balance the books. Alex McLuckie, GMB Scotland's senior organiser, said: "Our concern is the impact these proposals will have on jobs first within Glasgow and potentially the rest of Scotland. The council try to sanitise the situation by describing the impact as a 1.5% movement in posts. Our first action will be to minimise the effect these proposals have on jobs and to ensure that workers in Glasgow City Council are not made compulsorily redundant as a result of this budget. Workers' jobs will not be the price of this settlement." Mike Kirby, Unison's Glasgow organiser, added: "We'll need to see the impact of zero council tax being applied across the country but if the biggest council can't manage to balance the books without significant job losses other councils may well be in similar difficulties." A spokesman for the council said: "There will be no compulsory redundancies as a result of this budget.

Tucson golf scene one-upping Scottsdale with a PGA Tour-driven resort ...
People try to make Tucson feel inferior to Phoenix-Scottsdale as often as Cooper Manning gets asked what it's like to be the only Manning brother without a Super Bowl ring. It's not always easy for Tucsonians to come up with a defense either. Their spring training teams are bolting like someone stuck in a bad date. The Chicago White Sox want to leave for Glendale (the Super Bowl stadium town in Phoenix's burgeoning West Valley) next year and join 11 other teams already committed to training in greater Phoenix/Scottsdale in 2009. There's a chance Tucson could be left with two teams and then the worry is, soon no teams. Tucson's also dealing with an I-10 freeway construction project that some locals fear could last almost as long as Boston's infamous Big Dig. It might already feel like it has if you get stuck in it during rush hour.
