The Demise of Hyphy

You sound like you've come in contact with too many "scorned" women and you're making a lot of assumptions. And, as they say, assuming only makes an ass out of you...and, well, you. Take care.

I'm a stud in my forties and I know for a fact that it's not the men who need to get their "stuff" together it's the women! They cry for help anytime they can't measure up and a man has to run to their rescue. Who built and defended this country for eons? Not women that's for sure. So quit the victim hood ladies and own up to your own poor decisions and inability to get the job done. All us men are turned off by you drama queens and are looking for foreign women who know how to treat a man right without all the nagging and impossible expectations.

ClayNation: The tao of Applebee's football

Watching a football game at the Applebee's bar is sort of like playing secondary for the Tennessee defense. You know you're going to get burned, you're just not sure how. Several people have written in wanting to know where I was during the second half of South Carolina-UT and why I haven't commented on that game. For the record, I was at Applebee's.

The reason I haven't written anything about this was twofold: Because it was so painful to describe and because I'd already written 3k words on the Cocktail Party that same day. So I've decided to go back in time and tell you why you never, under any circumstances, want to watch a football game at Applebee's. Not that you needed to hear this from me but even still, a truer statement has never been made in this column. So here we go with my evening at Applebee's.

Cash opens up literary treasures

British literary treasures, including the earliest complete book written in English, are to go on display thanks to a 5m donation.

The artefacts at the University of Oxford's Bodleian Library are currently accessible only to a few scholars.

The gift, from Oxford publisher Julian Blackwell, will go towards the creation of an exhibition hall at one of the library's sites.

Other treasures include an embroidered handwritten book by Queen Elizabeth I.

The Bodleian Library has a copy of almost every book printed and an extra 5,000 books are added to its catalogue each week.

It is the main research library for the University of Oxford and occupies several sites across the city.

The new centre will be named the Blackwell Hall in recognition of the donation and will form part of a 70m redevelopment of the New Bodleian Library.

Native son has plan to save Sonics, KeyArena

Matt Griffin grew up in South Seattle and played youth football in the Rainier Valley. His dad is a Franklin High graduate. The younger Griffin attended Lakeside, class of '69, before heading off to Princeton.

He's as true a native son as you'll find in Seattle, a man so committed to the city that he and his wife live downtown on Fourth Avenue and don't own a car between them, choosing to walk, bike or ride the bus wherever they go.

So when the Seattle developer says he wants to help provide solutions for KeyArena and the Sonics, you know where his heart lies.

His message to the NBA, being delivered with the developing news of his investment group's interest in salvaging such a disrupted situation?

"You don't have to run away from Seattle," Griffin said.

The Truth about Cars Announces Ten Worst Automobiles for 2007

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--The Truth About Cars (TTAC) website has named its Ten Worst Automobiles for 2007. According to TTAC publisher Robert Farago, the second annual award names and shames "the worst of the worst." "From a long and ignoble list of nominees, our readers have chosen ten cars that are less desirable than swordfish ice cream. They're a rolling condemnation of their manufacturers' lack of vision, taste, engineering and marketing."

The ten finalists were chosen by the automotive website's 27k+ daily readers via an online poll. TTAC readers submitted 136 vehicles for the Ten Worst Automobiles Award. The site's writers narrowed the nominees down to a short list of 20 vehicles. TTAC then provided an online poll to select the final ten "winners."

This year, all ten finalists are either Chrysler or General Motors' products.

With Glavine back, notepads are full

This organization, as successful as it's been, there's a built-in expectation to win.

"But obviously there's the realization of what's happened the last two years; that's fresh on everybody's minds. Everybody in [the clubhouse] is hungry to get things back on track."

— Glavine said if the Braves hadn't been interested in bringing him back this season, he would have retired.

He said that he knows those who are skeptical of his continued ability to still perform at a high level will point to his last three starts for the Mets, when he was 0-2 with a 14.81 ERA.

He said those who aren't skeptical will look at his entire body of work from last season. Glavine was 13-6 with a 3.88 ERA in 31 starts before those final three.

"When people are skeptical of you, of course it motivates you," he said.
