Weber contemplates 'playing 'em all'

No players stood out the way Mike Davis and Bill Cole did that night. This was a 15-0 start with a lineup that included Brian Randle, Trent Meacham, Davis, Mike Tisdale and Chester Frazier. Meacham ended up leading the scoring with 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting. Randle was 4-for-4 and had eight points. And Tisdale, Cole and Chris Hicks had seven each.

Weber admitted the redshirt question is still uncertain and he said he may not redshirt anyone at all. My guess is he'll start out keeping a couple players on the bench and if something happens during the first couple weeks (someone plays very poorly or an injury), he'll press them into action.

He'll be talking with players and parents over the next few days and explaining the consequences of playing, then realizing there are not enough minutes to go around.

America`s Ultimatum

Any ways, even without confirming the true I.D of him, the following salvos of words need be shot to correct his latest views as such: 1. Turkey did not join America in Iraq's invasion. As a matter of fact Turkey refused the most convenient invasion route. 2. Turkey will not join any big power to attack Iran. 3. Turkey is not fighting along side any power in Afghanistan. There are couple hundred non combatant Turkish personnel for food and supplies only as Turks and Pathans are not fighting with each other over there. Turkey has non fighting role for food and supplies only at limited scale of couple hundred aid people. PATHANS ARE HALF TURKISH BY BLOOD ACCORDING TO ANTHROPOLOGISTS. AS A MATTER OF FACT ONLY THREE OR FOUR COUNTRIES ARE COMBATANTS IN AFGHANISTAN. ALMOST ALL EUROPE AND COUPLE HUNDRED TURKS IN AFGHAN ARE ONLY RELIEF WORKERS.

AFL's growing search for overseas players has filtered down to the local level. AFLQ club Broadbeach has recruited a teenage Canadian who shows plenty of promise. Scott Fleming and his whole family have moved to the Coast to see if he can make the "foreign" sport a goer.

RETIRING Queensland Bulls legend Michael Kasprowicz has left an indelible mark on the game with his good humour. Speaking finding another job at which he excels, he quipped: "My wife has me lined up to mow the lawn this weekend but I don't think I'll be very good at that."

HISTORIANS were reaching for their record books after Alistair Purser, a long-time grade cricketer with Wests, took 6-1 against Redlands at Dunlop Park last week.

Where has all the money gone that the Wichita school district has had over the years? It has let the schools run down and gotten us deeper in debt.

Defiant Alexander insists: I won't go

Ms Alexander insisted she would not step down or follow the example of former work and pensions secretary Peter Hain, who left the UK Cabinet after being referred to the police for failing to declare £103,000 of donations. If the fiscal pursues the case and she is found guilty, she may have to pay a fine of up to £5,000 and her career as an MSP – not just party leader – would be in tatters.Ms Alexander said that she had received erroneous advice from Scottish Parliament standards committee clerks on 8 November, informing her that she did not have to declare the donations as gifts. But a former Scottish Parliament standards committee chairman, Lib Dem MSP Mike Rumbles, suggested she might have already been in the wrong. He said yesterday that Ms Alexander asked for advice from the clerks about the donations, received between August and September last year, after the 30-day period in which she should have declared them.

Tips For Redeeming And Collecting Flyer Miles

We all like to get something for free but there is an old adage that says “nothing is ever free". A free airplane ticket is the draw of frequent flyer points but since airlines are not in the business of giving away seats for free there are some things you need to be aware of. There are also some tricks to using your accumulated air miles so you can get the most benefit out of them.

First off you need to choose a frequent flyer program and stick to that one program. Research the program and choose one that you will use most often. These programs also have partners including other airlines, retail stores, dining and car rental companies. Also research how many miles you receive for your flights and how many miles it takes to redeem a free ticket. Keep in mind that some airlines only give a percentage of the actual miles on discounted tickets so if you're a bargain hunter then pick a program that gives you one hundred percent of the miles on cheap tickets.

For U, four goals and a win is a start

Gophers coach Don Lucia has coached for 21 seasons at Alaska Fairbanks, Colorado College and Minnesota. Never had one of his teams gone through a scoring slump as bad as this team has endured recently: 10 goals in the past eight games.

It had to end sometime. And Friday it did, at least for one night.

Minnesota, which had scored a conference-low 44 goals entering Friday, scored four goals, including two in the second period, to beat Wisconsin 4-2 at Mariucci Arena. The Gophers' last four-goal game was a 4-4 tie at St. Cloud State on Jan. 12.

"You could tell who the desperate team was," Badgers coach Mike Eaves said. "We did not wake up until the third period."

The Gophers were well-rested, too, after a week off during which they slipped two spots to ninth place in the WCHA.

NATIONAL & WORLD DIGEST

The U.S. government will begin mailing $40 coupons Feb. 19 to help consumers pay for converters they'll need to keep older televisions working when TV switches to digital signals next year. Retailers including Best Buy Co., RadioShack Corp., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Circuit City Stores Inc. are ready to apply the coupons toward the $40 to $70 cost of a converter box, Meredith Baker, an official with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, told Congress yesterday. Traditional analog TV sets that use an antenna will need the converter box to continue working after the Feb. 17, 2009, switch. More than 2.4 million households have requested more than 4.7 million coupons, with an average of 61,000 requests arriving daily, Baker said. To apply for a coupon, visit dtv2009.gov.

Hardware New Line Blu-ray Disc Support Points to LOTR Fate

HBO, BBC also on Blu-ray Disc's side Warner's announcement last week of Blu-ray Disc exclusivity had a ripple effect on more than just one home video company's releases. Warner Home Video also distributes New Line, HBO and BBC Video products, leaving some to wonder if Blu-ray Disc just gained an entire stable of studio support.

According to Variety, New Line and HBO will follow Warner's lead to side only with Blu-ray Disc. BBC Video, the company behind the popular high-definition nature documentary Planet Earth, has not yet publicly expressed its intentions with format exclusivity.

New Line already positions its Blu-ray Disc products with greater priority than the equivalent HD DVD. New Line's first high-definition film, Hairspray, hit Blu-ray Disc in late November 2007, while an HD DVD version was only promised sometime in early 2008.
